Purpose
Combine lower-body strength with lateral foot-and-ankle control, improving alignment and coordination through the hips, knees and feet.
How to perform
Move the hips back as you lower into a controlled squat. Use the foot and ankle on the board to manage the lateral movement, then rise smoothly and switch sides.
Duration
6–10 reps per side. Optional: hold the final squat for 5–10 seconds.
Coaching cues
- Keep both feet active
- Keep both knees aligned with the toes
- Do not allow the board-side knee to collapse inward
- Use a comfortable, pain-free squat depth
Training level
This exercise is presented as one focused progression.
Once the standard setup feels consistently controlled, progress to the triangular bars for a greater stability challenge.
